Histological examination of the tissue components in a wall of human vagina

The results of light microscopy study, immunohistochemistry with monoclonal antibodies to different specific markers, method of tissue alkaline dissociation and preparation of isolated cells and morphometric analysis considerably completed information regarding the histophysiologic structure of the tissues in a wall of human vagina. The study defined immunohistochemical profile of different collagen types of vaginal connective tissue, proved existence of two muscle tissue types in a wall of the vagina, as well as confirmed positive expression of estrogen receptors not only in epithelial cells but also in leiomyocytuses and stromal cells.
